Early Childhood Center

The Temple Kol Ami Early Childhood Center provides an extraordinary preschool experience rooted in Jewish values and open to children of all faiths and backgrounds. We seek an experienced, innovative inspirational and nurturing assistant director who believes that early childhood education is the most critical period in human growth and development creating the foundation and pathway for academic achievement. We do this by providing a safe, loving, child-focused environment. This leader also understands the critical importance of building and enhancing relationships with families and with the staff team, and upholds the key values and mission of the synagogue.

Working Relationships

Reports: to the Director of the Early Childhood Center.
Teams with: teaching staff;
Clergy, Executive Director and all administrative staff; is an active member of the senior professional leadership team of Temple Kol Ami, envisioning new opportunities, respecting and honoring the history and traditions of the Temple and the school.
Works with maintenance staff to assure cleanliness and set ups for classes and events.

Assistant Director, Temple Kol Ami Early Childhood Center

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Staffing

Assist in the Classroom in the following ways:
Form positive relationships with the staff and acts as a professional model for them
Mentor new teachers and assure they are properly trained and acclimated
Support staff in handling and dealing with student behavior problems in the classroom. Attend meetings with parents if necessary. Keep ECC Director informed and involved with all interactions.
Assist Director of Early Childhood Center in recruitment, hiring, and orientation of all preschool staff
Assist Director of the Early Childhood Center in planning and organizing professional development and training programs for Preschool staff
Assist Director of Early Childhood Center in reflectively supervising teachers and support staff (schedules, absences, and all substitutes including Lullaby Guild staffing)
Fill in as classrooms teacher as needed when there is a staffing shortage
Help with classroom observations.
Represent director at meetings when needed and fill in for ECC Director if he/she is out of the office.

Administrative

Schedule staff for all classes, and events in accordance with state ratios and the Temple Kol Ami Preschool front desk and classroom schedule.
Staffing needs to be completed the day or night before including weekends and should not wait until the morning unless a teacher informs you at the last minute
Maintain and update payroll for Preschool staff and submit to the Temple Finance Director with approval of the Director Early Childhood Center
Assist in managing all school supplies, equipment and inventory; order weekly challah
Manage new child enrollment under the supervision of Director of Early Childhood Center
Assist in maintaining family billing
Maintain student records with appropriate immunization, developmental history and health information
Maintain and update forms for annual enrollment for Fall and Summer
Maintain and update Family and Staff Handbooks under the supervision of Director of Early Childhood Education
Help plan and record outside parent and family activities (Tot Shabbat, Jewish Holiday Celebrations
Attend to minor health issues that arise including cuts, bumps and sick children that need to leave school.
Maintain confidential information and confidentiality on all relationships with parents and children.

Licensing and Accreditation

Ensure compliance on all Department of Human Services licensing requirements under the supervision of Director of the Early Childhood Center.
Maintain CPR and First Aid Certification
Preferably. a degree in Early Childhood Education; must have 24 credits in ECE and/or Child Development credential and 1 year of teaching experience
Seek additional opportunities for accreditation and ongoing training for self and staff

Parent/Teacher Organization and Preschool Fundraising

Assist in the planning and implementation of fundraising events in conjunction with other school/Temple departments
Assist in publicizing and encouraging volunteer involvement in Temple and preschool fundraising.

Programmatic

Manage staff and organize winter, spring and summer camp programs
Tour potential families in coordination with Director of the Early Childhood Center
Participate in Preschool and Synagogue events in coordination with Director of Early Childhood Center including Tot Shabbat services, High Holy Days, holidays and special programs serving families with young children and fundraisers
Assist in implementation of school curriculum as requested

Parent, Staff and Family Communication

Communicate in a positive and professional manner and provide support to all students and families
Develop weekly parent communication sharing upcoming events and preschool news in coordination with the Director of Early Childhood Center
Establish and maintain communications with current and prospective parents of preschool students, through direct conversation and calendars
Answer phones, doors and gate
Other duties as required and help as requested by other Temple staff during the day

Working Conditions
Must be able to balance office and classroom environments
Be available by phone, text or email to the Early Childhood Center Director, parents and other temple staff from 7:30 am to 8:00 pm daily Mon – Fri and on Sunday evenings from 7 – 9 pm as needed.
As an exempt employee, you will complete your work as needed; a specific schedule will be determined with the Early Childhood Center Director.
